I saw that link about Liz's cosplay rules, (the text has been deleted) and I have to say that if you will follow those rules, you will have nothing but a

Aion nyt siis kirjoittaa tähän säännöt, tai pikemminkin neuvot, joita itse noudattaisin :)
So now I'm gonna write rules, or more like advices, which I would follow myself :)
1. Valitse hahmo, josta pidät jai johon koet sopivasi. Lyhyille ja pyöreäkasvoisille sopivat suloiset ja sölpöt henkilöt, ja pitkille taas pikät (no shit?) ja kauniit/komeat. Jos on 180 cm pitkä, ei ehkä kannata cossata sitä lyhyintä ja pienintä hahmoa jonka tietää, ja jos on vähän painoa kertynyt, ei kannata cossata sitä anorketista pikkupoikaa. Se ei kuitenkaan ole niin pilkun tarkkaa, mutta aina on hauskempaa kun itse sopii hahmoonsa! :)
Choose the character you like, or whom you think you look like. For short and spherical faced will go with cute and sweet characters, and tall will go with tall (no shit?) and beautifull/handsome ones. So if you're 180 cm tall, maybe it's not the best idea to cosplay that shortest and littlest character, and if you have weight, maybe you shouldn't cosplay that anorectic little boy. It's not so scrupulous, but it's always nicer when you look like your character :)
2. Jos teet puvun itse, hanki siihen sopivaa materiaalia. Ei aina kannata ostaa sitä ensimmäistä punaista joka tulee vastaan (nimim. virheistäni opin...), vaan kankaan valintaan kannattaa varata aikaa :) Jos ostat puvun, kannattaa myöskin vertailla eri myyjien välisiä pukuja. Joku saattaa olla muutaman euron kalliimpi, mutta rutkasti laadukkaampi kuin toinen!
If you make your costume yourself, get the suitable material. It's not always good idea to buy that first red fabric which you find (nickname; I learn from my mistakes..), but take time to choose the material :) If you wanna buy your costume, compare the costumes from different sellers. One might be some euros costier, but it might have better quality!
3. Jos teet puvun itse, etkä ole varma mistä aloittaa tai miten jokin tietty kohta tulisi tehdä, älä ikinä, IKINÄ pelkää kysyä apua tai neuvoa! Se kehittää ketä tahansa jos uskaltaa vähän nykiä hihasta äitiä tai kaveria, jotta saisi apua. Neuvoja voi kysyä ihan missä asiassa vaan; mitä kangasta käyttää, kumpi näyttää paremmalta, mistä sinä teit sen ja sen jne. Sharing is caring :3
If you make your costume yourself, and you're not sure where to start or how you should make some part, never EVER be afraid to ask for help or advice! It improves your skills if you will be brave enought to tug your mother or friend from the sleev to get help. It's okay to ask advice for any problem ever; What material to use, which one looks better, how did you make this and that etc. Sharing is caring :3
4. Varaa aikaa cossin tekoon. Vaikeampi puku jossa on monta yksityiskohtaa vie luonnollisesti enemmän aikaa kuin yksinkertaisempi puku, joten kannattaa aina alkaa tehdä ajoissa pukua ettei ala hätiköidä niinkuin minä kun con alkaa lähestyä ja puvusta puuttuu vielä vaikka ja mitä : D
Take time to your cosplay. Harder costume with very many particulars will natuarlly take more time than easier costume with, so you should start making it soon enough so you don't have to panic just before Con when your costume is missing this and that, like mine always does : D
5. Tee parhaasi! Vaikkei tulos olisikaan samanlainen kuin cosplay-idolisi tekemässä cossissa, niin tärkeintä on se että olet itse nähnyt vaivaa cossisi kokonaisuuden eteen, etkä ole laiskasti vain hutaissut cossiasi kokoon. Panostus näkyy aina, vaikka taidot eivät ihan vielä riittäisikään siihen mihin jonkun toisen. Kaikki ovat aloittaneet jostain!
Do your best! Even if the final result wouldn't be the same as your cosplay idol's is, it's more important that you have made investment for you cosplay, and you haven't just lazily bungled your cosplay to entirety. Investment is always something that others can see, even your skills would be so great than someone else's are right now. Everyone has started from somewhere!
6. Älä pelkää käyttää hyväksi kirpputoreja ja omaa vaatekaappiasi. Jos olet löytänyt täydelliset housut siihen ja tähän cossiin, niin miksi ihmeessä sinun tarvitsisi ommella ne itse, kun voit sada ne sellaisenaan tässä ja nyt? Ei sinun tarvitsekkaan, se on hyvää vanhojen vaatteiden hyötykäyttöä :)
Don't be afraid of using flea market or your own closet. If you have found perfect pants for this and that cosplay, then why you should make them yourself when you can have them here and now? Well, you shouldn't, it's good to utilisatiate old clothes :)
7. Valmistaudu siihen että sinusta halutaan ottaa kuvia. Jos cossisi on hyvä, ihmiset arvostavat sitä ja haluavat ottaa sinusta itselleen kuvan :) Voit tietenkin kieltäytyä kuvasta, mutta varaudu siihen että fanitytöt piinaavat sinua.
Prepare to be photographed. If your cosplay is good, people will appreciate it and wanna take picture of you :) Of course you can so no to picture, but be prepared that fangirls can disturb you.
8. Eläytyminen. Tämä on vähän kaksipiippuinen juttu. Jos hahmosi on luonteeltaan tyly ja töykeä ja koetat eläytyä rooliisi, voivat jotkut olettaa että sinäkin olet tyly ja töykeä. Se ei ole kivaa. Toisaalta, joistain ihmisistä on hauskaa kun eläydyt hahmoosi! Jos et halua eläytyä, niin neuvoni on, että jos joku tulee pyytämään kuvaa sinusta, voit ainakin kuvaamisen ajan tavoitella hahmoasi, kuva onnistuu niin paremmin! Mistä pääsenkin seuraavaan asiaan...
empathize to character. This is little two-sided thing. If you character is cold and rude and you try to act in the role, some people might think that you are cold and rude yourself. And that's not nice. On the other hand, some people might think it's funny when you'r in the character! If you don't want to, then I would say that if someone's gonna ask you for photograph, you could try to act like the character for the photo,, picture will be better that way! What leads me to the next stop...
9. ... Eli poseeraamiseen! Jos hahmollasi on joku perus pose (kuten esim. Tokyo MewMewin Ichigolla tai Pokemonin Ashilla), niin voit turvautua siihen. Jos ei, voit vaikka katsella muiden ihmisten cosplaykuvia ja ottaa mallia hiedän poseistaan, or harjoitella peilin edessä omaa posea. Kuulostaa vähän hassulta, tiedän, mutta se oikeasti kannattaa. On todella noloa kun joku tulee kysymään kuvaa, etkä sitten yhtään tiedäkkään miten kuuluisi poseerata ja menet lukkoon (Puhun taas kerran omalla kokemuksella :''D)
...The pose! If your character has some pose she/he uses al lot (Like Ichigo in Tokyo Mew Mew or Ash in Pokemon), you can use that pose. If she/ he has not, then you can watch other peoples cosplaypictures and take pattern from their poses, or practice your own pose in front of the mirror. It sound funny, but trust me it's worth it! It's pretty embarassing when someone ask for the photo and you have no idea how to make pose and you freeze (once again I speak about my own exprerience :''D)
10. Meikit ja peruukit. Vaikka hahmosi olisikin poika, cosplayssa ei ole ollenkaan omituista jos pistät cossiisi meikkiä! Yleensä se on jopa suotavaa. Joskus tosin meikkaaminen ei ole tarpeellista, ja saatat näyttää paremmalta ilman sitä kajaalia ja paksua ripsaria, joten mieti meikkaamistakin huoella! Erilaisille hahmoille sopii erilaiset meikit, joten jos Rozen Maidenin Suigintoulle sopii tekoripset ja kajaali, se ei tarkoita että Jack Frostkin tarvitsee niitä :) Peruukin valintaan pätee samat säännöt, kuin puvun ostamiseen; vertaile vahtoehtoja äläkä aina tyydy halvimpaan!
Make up and wigs. Even if your character would be a boy, in cosplay it's not weird at all to wear make up! Usually it's even desirable. Sometimes make up isn't necessary, you might even look better without that kohl and heavy mascara, so think about make up! Different characters goes with different make ups, so if Rozen Maidens' Suigintou looks good with false lashes and kohl, it doesn't mean that Jack Frost would needs them too :) Wig goes as same rules as buying costume; compare the choises and don't always take that cheapest one!
11. Pidä hauskaa! Cosplayssa, niin kliseiseltä kuin se kuulostaakin, on tärkeintä se että sinä itse olet tyytyväinen cossiisi, ja sinulla on hauskaa sen kanssa. Oli se sitten ryhmäcospalyta, hengailua kavereiden kanssa tai photoshoot omalla takapihalla, sen idea menee pilalle jos sinulla itselläsi ei ole kivaa.
Have fun! With cosplay, as cliche as it sounds, it's most important that you are happy with your cosplay and you have fun with it. It doesn't matter if it's group cosplau, hangin out with friends or photoshoot in your own backyard, you are missing the point if you're not having any fun.
En itse ole mikään ammattilainen, kuljen vielä lasten saappaissa ja vieläpä liian isoissa sellaisissa muiden perässä, mutta osaan arvostaa omaa kädenjälkeäni ja muiden vaivaa omiin cosseihinsa, ja tiedän miltä tuntuu olla joskus se ainoa jonka cossia ei kukaan tule kehumaan. Mutta pohjalta pääsee vain ylöspäin! Muistakaa ihmiset ettei kannata kuunnella muiden mollausta, vaan mielummin kokeneempien neuvoja ja omia aivoja cosplayn suhteen!
I'm not professional, I'm walking in the boots of the child and moreover too big ones after the others, but I can appreciate my own work and the effort of the other people from their cosplays, and I know what it feels like to be sometimes that only one, which cosplay nobody didn't come to praise. But only way from the bottom is up! Remeber that you shouldn't listen any crap about your costume. Listen advices of the experienced ones and your own brains with cosplay!
